<p>GABA, or gamma-aminobutyric acidm, is the most important natural neurotransmitter found in the brain. Discovered in 1950, GABA was researched and tested before it ultimately gained the reputation as a chemical that could induce relaxation, analgesia, and sleep. Studies have been conducted, <img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-348" title="gaba" src="http://brainwavedirections.com/media/gaba.jpg" alt="gaba" />two specifically, regarding the use of GABA and its effect on relaxation and immunity to stress.</p>
<p>The first study was conducted with 13 participants. The study set out to look at the relationship between GABA intake and brain wave activity. The results showed that the GABA had greatly increased brain alpha wave activity within 60 minutes of being orally administered (it had also, in turn, decreased beta waves). These results indicated that GABA not only increased the propensity for relaxation, but, also decreased overall anxiety levels within the experiment’s participants.</p>
<p>The second study looked at participants whom were placed in a “stressed out” mental state. This was done by asking them to cross a swaying bridge. The volunteers were divided into two groups; a placebo group and a group who was administered GABA treatments. Immunoglobulin A (IgA) levels in the saliva were tested throughout the experiment (lgA inhibits relaxation). In the end, it was determined that lgA levels were significantly higher in the group that had received GABA, when compared to the placebo group. The conclusion indicated once again, that GABA could be used as a natural relaxant within 60 minutes of oral consumption.</p>

<p>It was at about this time last year, I felt a twinge in the base of my neck, piercing enough to shatter an eyebrow, and concerning enough to leave the imprint of numbness in the back of my skull. Through obvious concern from the lingering effects which lasted several weeks and melted swelling effects from eardrum to eardrum, I visited a medical practitioner. The sage wisdom and dime-store advice the good practitioner provided did nothing to ease the painful swelling &#8211; but it did bring new perspective into how delicate my cranial fluid columns were susceptible to disrupting effects &#8211; the wavelengths of my brain were &#8216;out-of-whack&#8217; &#8211; so to speak&#8230;</p>
<p>As I mentioned, the pain subsided shortly thereafter, and with a scar of a lost patch of hair as a reminder, I could feel the bouncing waves of stress-free matter beaming back and forth within the confines of synaptic caverns, peaking signal after signal in free, unabated form &#8211; my headache had gone away. In my retrospected viewpoint, I attributed the signal fade of free formed brainwaves to stress &#8211; the concentrated process of focusing one aspect and area of the brain for long durations of time &#8211; stress seemed to infiltrate my guards of protection and penetrated my concentration into one singular point of entity &#8211; I had been stressed about my job&#8230;</p>
<p>If it hadn&#8217;t been for a couple month hiatus from employment, a renewed sense of purpose and a better understanding of money making endeavours, I&#8217;m sure a relapsing synaptic effect would have sure knocked on my cranial column by now&#8230; Anyways, the purpose of the point I plan to propose is one of obviousness &#8211; that our brains and minds are a fragile conglomeration of matter, and if ethereal matters such as one&#8217;s employment could cause concern for chaotic shutdown, what could real matters such as wireless wavelengths bring to the concentrated pools of spinal fluid traps and triggers of the mind?</p>

<p>Buddhist Meditation, often referred to as Zen, is the act of mindful concentration. At its core, Buddhist meditation is aimed at developing a deep conscious awareness of your outer surroundings and your inner thoughts and feelings in all your activities and even in your sleep. Practiced in a seated position with the eyes closed, the Buddhist meditation practitioner moves through three stages of cognitive development and awareness: 1) Shamatha; 2) Vipashyana; and 3) Samadhi.</p>

<p>This is one of my favorite types of self improvement CDs. They are meant to make meditation easy, and they sure do that. Using &#8220;binaural beats,&#8221; they slow your brainwaves and relax you. All you have to do is put on your headphones and listen. Beats embedded in the background music (or rain, waves, or other sounds) slow your brainwaves into an alpha state or deeper (beta brainwaves, at 14 hertz or above, are the usual in a wide awake state).</p>
<p>They claim to raise your threshold for stress with regular use, and many people say they do just that. They may also help you increase your self awareness. I certainly find them to be a pleasant experience. They clear my mind and take away stress quickly. I also use them to put me to sleep when I need a &#8220;power nap.&#8221; There is no question that they powerfully affect your brain, and I have experienced and heard of only positive results.</p>

This is why many people fail at kicking bad habits, new years resolutions end up as toilet paper and we remain the same dysfunctional person that everyone knows. We are up against ourselves, and most of the time, we win.</p>

<p>Brainwave entrainment is the use of some external stimulus, usually different sounds that a person will hear with stereo headphones, to induce a certain level of brain wave activity. When a person&#8217;s brainwave activity is artificially altered by these means, it will subtly shift their awareness and perception.</p>
<p>Using binaural beats is a common and effective method of brainwave entrainment. In order for the binaural beats to be effective, a person must be using stereo headphones so that they can hear a different sound in each ear.</p>
<p>Most of the time, the binaural beats will be embedded underneath the layers of tracks on a song, usually soothing ambient music or soundscapes, so that the person listening can focus on the music and not on the frequencies they are hearing. If you either find or create effective binaural beat audios to listen to in stereo heaphones, the frequencies should blend perfectly into the background, and you should not be able to consciously notice them unless you really try to isolate them.</p>

With this information many people are creating libraries of music with the specific purpose of benefiting our health.  Some of this incorporates audible information and some uses subliminal information.</p>
<p>These incorporate what has been found by scientists and called entrainment which is when different sounds of similar frequencies are sent to each ear.  This happens when the brain adjusts to the difference between the two frequencies and attempts to match that different frequency.  This is known as a binaural beat and the brain adjusts its wave output to that frequency.</p>
<p>For instance, if the difference in frequencies between the two ears is 15 cycles per second then the brain will match its wave output to that frequency.  It has been found that brain waves affect mood, level of relaxation and focus.</p>
